Ta-Ta Weekend : {Hello Week}

Weekend Wrap-Up:

I am one of the luckiest people ever because my brother’s girlfriend’s family owns several donut shops.  So you know when you go to a celebration and bring a bottle of wine, dessert or app….well we get donuts brought!  I remember the first time I found out, it was at my sister’s 10th birthday when she showed up with a fresh dozen…..needless to say we fell in love! (With her and the donuts).  The donut shops they own not only make regular donuts but specialty donuts that need to be pre-ordered because they always run out!  The newest one they released was their version of the Cronut and it had to be pre-ordered….(Ain’t nobody got time fo dat), so this weekend I decided to try my hand at this seductive treat!  Stay tuned for the full blog about it and the recipe on Wednesday!.

The rest of the weekend was filled with an intimate cliffside wedding, making jam, blogging, beach baptisms, having a Johnston family lunch, watching Homeland (addicted), and taking cray long walks to work off those Kronuts.

My husband helped with the Kronut making of course!

Ta-Ta Weekend : {Hello Week}

Weekend Wrap-Up:

Can we say DUTCH BABY?!  Yes folks I finally tried it!  My friends and family have been telling me to visit The Original Pancake House and taste this deliciousness…..so this weekend the whole Johnston clan did!  I need to learn how to make this…it tastes like a combo between a crepe and a pancake.  It is best with butter, powdered sugar, and lemon juice….this makes it taste basically like a light lemon bar.  We ordered a side of blueberry compote on the side for it too…so good!   The great thing is it is big enough to share and it is so light you don’t feel weighed down.

This Week:

 I want to sleep and plan DIY’s….I wish I could do both at the same time haha.

Looking forward to {In The Blog}:  There will be a few recipes, a beauty tip, and a look into me being “uncool.”  Be sure to check them all out!

Looking forward to {In My Life}:  I love being intentional with gifts.  Don’t get me wrong, I love gift cards and giving them, but I also love to surprise people with gifts that take time.  So I have a few gifts I am working on right now that really excite me and I will feature them on the blog once they are given…sorry for the secrecy!

Ta-Ta Weekend…Hello Week.

Weekend Wrap-Up:

I am a planner and a maximizer when it comes to getting things done (99% of the time). This trait can be a blessing and a curse. I often tell myself (or my husband does), to slow down and relax. Well going into this weekend I had an idea of what I wanted to happen and what I needed to get done….and none of those involved relaxing. But some unexpected things happened that threw me off my plan and forced me to slow down, and I am so grateful they did!

I met up with my dad, who recently returned from Mexico, for lunch this weekend and he ended up bringing my tía. Well lunch turned into being with my family the whole afternoon at my tía’s house; chatting, picking habenero chiles from her garden, cooking beans, and eating piles of fruit, homemade tostadas, ceviche, beans and salsa….you know how Mexican’s do. So I threw my “plan” out the window and enjoyed myself fully! Plus I picked up some Mexican cooking tips from my tía and can’t wait to put them into use! I already started by making myself some beans for the week. I hate to admit that I have been using canned beans for years (sorry mom). But it’s because beans have always been my cooking kryptonite! It’s a shame too because they have been one of my favorite foods since I was young. When I was a kid for dinner I would often just soak my corn tortillas in the salty bean broth and just suck the juice and the soggy tortilla…..not much has changed haha. Anyway, it’s experiences like this that I will remember when I am old. In the long run it won’t matter that I didn’t maximize every second to get all my chores and errands done….so thanks Dad!

He also brought my daughter and I matching traditional peasant blouses and bricks of tamarindo! (For those of you who don’t know what that is, it is a tarty sweet fruit that is used for candies…who knows what I am going to do with bricks of it haha!)

Besides spending time with the hispanic side of my family this weekend, the baby and I also went to the beach, and welcomed home the hubs from his long week at camp! Check out the highlight reel of photos below. Hope you all had a good weekend and are excited about the upcoming week!

Ta-Ta Weekend…Hello Week.

Weekend Wrap-Up:photo (6)It was a FULL weekend! We went to a wedding reception (Pictures coming soon), had a pool party with friends, Baby E and I explored the city on our Saturday morning walk and went thrifting (Yes those gold shoes will be for her). We also said goodbye to the hubs as he left for the week to take students to summer camp.

This Week:

Something I love about the weekdays is that it feels like a chance to start fresh. The phrase “Come Monday I’ll __________” is a common phrase I use. Well this week it’s “Come Monday I’ll eat healthy” haha. The weekend is for splurging and the week is for getting back to business, eating right, and going to bed early…at least it is this week.

Looking forward to {In The Blog}: Rustic reception, Best Meal EVER, Summer DIY, and more!

Looking forward to {In My Life}: My mom staying with me this week (guaranteed #sillylemon quotes), eating healthy, watching The Killing season finale, & being reunited with my man.

It is so easy for me to focus on the negatives when my husband is gone, but this quote is a great reminder that absence truly does make the heart grow fonder. (Thanks Pinterest)
